Jamie was very knowledgeable on this topic and it was very intriguing to listen to her speak in class.
— Student, Fall 2016
I loved going out and doing the service and then reflecting on it. The presentation touched on many aspects of working for a nonprofit, and I believe that was insightful.
— Student, Spring 2017

Over the past two decades, I have taught in both the university and college preparatory settings. My course topics range from philanthropy to linguistics to communications, but share an engaged, experiential approach — we not only study our topics but also involve ourselves in their practice.

Traditional Courses Include:

Giving and Volunteering in America - This course explored the historical, philosophical, and literary foundations of American philanthropic traditions. Simultaneously, it engaged in contemporary philanthropic issues through discussions of current events and conditions and service-learning. (Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis)

Religion and Ethics in Philanthropy - This course explored relationships between people’s religious traditions and their philanthropic ideas and activities. As a graduate assistant, my primary responsibilities included organizing the online aspects of the course. (IUPUI)

Introductory Spanish - This immersive Spanish language course placed emphasis on developing basic speaking, writing, listening and reading skills as well as awareness of Hispanic cultures. (IUPUI).

Comparative Linguistics - This course introduced students to a diversity of methods of language examination, as well as the sociopolitical background and intellectual history of approaches to studying the English language. Written and oral communication in Spanish and English were an integral part of the studies. (University of Seville)

Advanced Oral Communication - In this course, students developed critical speaking and listening skills. This course included instruction in adapting speech to different audiences and purposes.

After many years supervising the Seville-IU Exchange Program, Jamie Goodwin struck me as a complete human being. I say “complete” because IU candidates are generally outstanding at the academic level: they alternate their teaching duties in our department with their own home research tasks. And that requires hard work. Other candidates are excellent teachers and integrate well in the dense and rich cultural Sevillian tissue. Jamie, more than any other, had everything: she wants to be a better person and she wants other people to be better.
— Teresa Lopez-Soto, Professor of Philology, University of Seville
